Established and constituted on 19 August 1998, by the Energy and Resource Instituture (TERI) as TERI School of Advanced Studies, it received the status of a deemed university in 1999. The University is a unique institution of higher learning exclusively for programmes leading to PhD and Masters level degrees. Its uniqueness lies in the wealth of research carried out within TERI as well as by its faculty and students making it a genuinely research based University.

This MBA programm is aiming to achieve a critical mass of expertise and academic excellence that would provide a basis for influencing public policy and regulatory practice and for developing effective management practices in infrastructure industries through research and teaching. The MBA (Infrastructure) programme encompasses a comprehensive and well-structured two-year curriculum to enable students to formulate, analyze and evaluate regulatory policies and manage alternative regulatory regimes in the best interests of their businesses. The curriculum is designed specifically to provide specialized training in the concepts and skills involved in the regulatory process and competition policy, as well as helping the scholars understand regulation from technical, economic, social, legal and political perspectives.

TERI is a not for profit independent research institute that was formally established in 1974. The core purpose and the structure of the Institute envolved over the years and now it is currently recognized globally for its contribution to scientific and policy research in the realms of energy, environment, and sustainable development. The global presence and reach attained by TERI are not only substantiated by its presence in different parts of the world, but also in terms of the wide geographical relevance of its activities. TERI carries out multi-disciplinary research and offers training and demonstration projects aimed at the development of solutions to global problems in the fields of energy, environment and sustainable development.
Delhi sustainable development summit (DSDS)
The rise of the DSDS (Delhi Sustainable Development Summit) as a flagship event of TERI, dedicated to the universal cause of environment and sustainable development, is a testimony to its uniqueness and global appeal. Over the years, the summit has enjoyed global support from over 60 countries.
It is a unique global forum for analysis of and debate on some of the most crucial environmental and climate change challenges being faced by humanity at large. Informed discussions among participants from corporates, governments, international agencies, and institutes provide critical mass, for formulation and delineation of strategies to take the sustainable development agenda forward.
